For the past 6 seasons, former Mississippi State DB Darius Slay has worn the No. 23 jersey for the Detroit Lions.

Now, though, he has been traded to the Philadelphia Eagles ahead of the 2020 season, and he’ll switch up his jersey number, too.

Per a post on his Instagram on Saturday, Slay said he’ll be wearing the No. 24 jersey in Philly to honor the late NBA star Kobe Bryant (via ESPN):

“My number I’m rocking? I’m going with that two four, man. I’m rockin’ with two four this year,” Slay said Saturday evening in an Instagram Live video. “Kobe mode. Black mamba, baby. Rest in peace to the GOAT, man. Rest in peace to one of my favorite players. […] I think I’m gonna look good in 24.”

Slay was a second-round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. He recorded 19 interceptions in his 7 seasons with the Lions.
