Will there be college football this fall?

That’s the question the majority of sports fans around the country are asking right now. Currently, there are no sports, as the coronavirus has brought all sports to a screeching halt. Now, the attention has turned to the 2020 season, and several scenarios are currently being discussed by athletic leaders around the nation.

The different scenarios seem to include starting the season on time, delaying the start of the season until October, having part of the season played during late fall and picking it back up in late winter or early spring. There could also be just a spring season. It all depends on how the COVID-19 pandemic plays out.

On Thursday, Alabama athletic director Greg Byrne responded on Twitter to a question regarding fall sports.

“We will continue to depend on the health experts & their advice, but we are planning to play our fall sport seasons,” Byrne tweeted. “It’s only April, and things have been changing week-by-week, so we still have time to better understand where we will be by September.”

The SEC has suspended all in-person athletic activities through May 31, and it’s unknown at this point whether that will be extended or not.

In a positive sign of events, Missouri announced that it is planning on resuming on-campus classes this fall. Athletic directors told Vice President Mike Pence that fall sports won’t happen unless students are on campus.
