Report: Redshirt junior Alabama linebacker enters NCAA transfer portal

Earlier this offseason, Alabama coach Nick Saban announced that rising redshirt junior LB Markail Benton had been suspended from the team.
Now, it appears Benton has decided to move on and will leave the Crimson Tide program.
Per a report from AL.com’s Matt Zenitz on Wednesday, Benton’s name has appeared in the NCAA transfer portal:
Have learned that Alabama linebacker Markail Benton has entered the transfer portal.
Was suspended from the team earlier in the offseason.

Benton appeared in 9 games in 2019, recording 19 tackles (1 of which went for a loss). He also had 1 pass breakup.
Where he ends up next remains to be seen, but it appears his time in Tuscaloosa has come to an end. Saban never revealed a reason for Benton’s suspension in his call with reporters back in April.
