There has been plenty of speculation that Duce Staley would one day land a head coaching position in the NFL or in college football, but no one could have imagined the former Gamecock would have that opportunity prior to the start of the 2020 season.

However, that’s the situation the Philadelphia Eagles find themselves in following Doug Pederson’s recent positive COVID-19 test result. With Pederson off in quarantine, Staley has assumed the head coach responsibilities in Philly.

Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer was the first to report this news.

A former standout on the field for the Eagles, Staley has served as an assistant coach for the franchise dating back to the 2013 NFL season. Leading up to the 2018 NFL season, Staley was promoted to assistant head coach on Pederson’s Philadelphia staff.

Staley, a two-time Super Bowl champion (once as a player and once as a coach), played at South Carolina in the mid-1990s. He rushed for 1,852 yards and 17 touchdowns during his time in Columbia before being selected in the third round of the 1997 NFL Draft by the Eagles.
