Former Florida defensive back Chauncey Gardner-Johnson announced he is changing his name to Ceedy Duce. The New Orleans Saints safety made the announcement this weekend on his Instagram account.

This isn’t the first name change for the former Gator. He spent the first two seasons of his UF career going by Chauncey Gardner. In December 2017, he announced that he would be hyphenating the last name to Gardner-Johnson to honor his stepfather, Brian Johnson.

During his NFL career, Gardner-Johnson has gone by C.J. for “Chauncey Jr.” Gardner-Johnson/Duce is entering his second season with the Saints.

As for “name watch,” the display name on his Twitter account is now “Ceedy Duce” while the Instagram account handle remains chaunceygardner_johnson. The Saints roster still lists the 22-year-old as C.J. Gardner-Johnson.

A fourth-round selection in the 2019 NFL Draft, Gardner-Johnson played in all 16 games, making 7 starts. He defended 9 passes (8 passes deflected, one interception) and recorded 49 tackles, including 6 for a loss, and a forced fumble.
