5-star freshman Kelee Ringo out indefinitely for Georgia following recent surgery
Training camp has yet to open in Athens — it’s scheduled to start next week — but already Kirby Smart’s defense is down a pair of defensive backs in the last few weeks.
Starting with former four-star prospect Divaad Wilson, who transferred out of the program to return closer to home, and now comes the news that five-star freshman Kelee Ringo underwent surgery this week in Athens to repair a torn labrum.
News of Ringo’s injury was first reported by Dayne Young of UGASports.com.
Ringo’s recovery time could take months, meaning the touted freshman is likely in line for a redshirt season this year in Athens.
The 6-foot-2, 205-pound Arizona native signed with Georgia after ranking as the No. 4 overall prospect in the nation and the No. 1 cornerback prospect in the 2020 recruiting cycle.
While this news is unfortunate, Georgia’s defensive backfield is currently loaded with a mix of talent and experience as the Bulldogs return Eric Stokes, DJ Daniel, Mark Webb, Tyson Campbell, Tyrique Stevenson at corner/nickel and Richard LeCounte, Lewis Cine and Chris Smith at the safety spots.
Ringo recently shared this tweet on Thursday morning:
Blessing in disguise??
