Antonio Callaway has just landed another shot in the NFL.

The former Gator standout has been given many opportunities during his troubled career but things have yet to work out for a player with massive potential on the gridiron.

Now he’ll be given another shot in the NFL as the Miami Dolphins have signed Callaway to the team’s practice squad, according to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport.

“Former Browns WR Antonio Callaway is signing with the Dolphins practice squad, per source. A possible high-reward signing,” Rapoport reports.

As Rapoport notes, Callaway is still on suspension and cannot play for the Dolphins for the first seven games of the NFL season. This suspension stems from his time with the Cleveland Browns.

During his time in Cleveland, Callaway was suspended twice during the 2019 season for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy. The Browns cut him before the season ended, which is why Callaway must continue to serve his suspension now with the Dolphins.

After leaving the Browns, Callaway was signed by the XFL.

One interesting note on that signing, after the XFL folded and fired CEO Oliver Luck, the league’s signing of Callaway was cited by the XFL as a reason that Luck breached his contract with the league. Given the receiver’s troubled history dating all the way back to his days at Florida, apparently the league did not want Callaway in the XFL.

For his NFL career, Callaway has appeared in 20 games with 51 catches for 675 yards with five touchdowns.
