These days, most football teams have gone to a system with multiple running backs sharing the workload out of the backfield.

That will be the case at Tennessee this year, as both Ty Chandler and Eric Gray are deserving of their fair share of touches.

Recently, Chandler discussed the battle with Gray for the starting job, saying they learn from each other and feel like they make each other better (via TimesFreePress.com):

“I’m just grateful to be able to be in the room with him,” Chandler said on a recent Zoom call. “He has a great skill set that he brings to the game, and he’s even taught me things. We talk about stuff all the time, and we just feed off each other. I’m grateful to be able to go out there and compete with him.

“I feel like he gets me better. He gets the whole team better. I love it.”

In 2019, Chandler had 655 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns. Gray had 539 yards and 4 scores.

We’ll see if both of them can improve their numbers in 2020.
