Heading into the 2019 season, Alabama and Georgia were the only SEC programs to make the College Football Playoff. LSU changed that, going 15-0 and winning the national championship. Some fans and media members are wondering if another conference team could make its CFP debut this season.

Coming off of back-to-back New Year’s Six bowl wins with a returning starting quarterback, some in the national media, including Urban Meyer, have predicted Florida will be that SEC team to finally crack the final four.

This week, Paul Finebaum weighed in on Florida’s playoff chances.

“This program has rocked all over the place. It seems like it’s back,” Finebaum said on ESPN’s Keyshawn, J-Will and Zubin podcast. “Florida has to beat Georgia this year to make that claim for the College Football Playoff. But with Kyle Trask, who a year ago was not even the starter, he was a career backup and came in when Felipe Franks was injured. That looks, even though it’s a preseason top 10 team, it could be a sneaky College Football Playoff team.”

Trask and company start their Playoff campaign this Saturday in Oxford against Lane Kiffin’s Ole Miss Rebels. The game is set for a noon ET kickoff and will air on ESPN.
