They don’t call it the “Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry” for nothing, folks.

Auburn’s issues in Athens surfaced once again on Saturday night as Georgia whipped up on the Tigers to the tune of a 27-6 victory in Sanford Stadium.

Somehow, that score doesn’t even indicate how lopsided of a matchup this really was as Auburn had virtually no success on offense in this game.

These two programs have been playing since 1892 with Georgia winning seven of the previous eight in the series. Despite playing in Athens every other season, Auburn has not won on the road in this series since the 2005 season.

The 2020 edition of the matchup, played on Oct. 3, 2020, was the earliest these two teams have faced on the calendar dating back to 1936. Incredibly, the last time these two programs met in October came back on Oct. 24, 1936.

This offseason, the SEC made the decision to move the rivalry game up on the calendar, which is why the game was played before November this season.

Following Georgia’s dominant 27-6 win on Saturday night, Sanford Stadium’s PA announcer offered up an incredible line:

Different month, same result. Say it with me Georgia fans: Dawgs on Top,” according to Dawg Post.

That is the stuff of rivalry legend right there.
