Jeremy Pruitt explains why Tennessee won’t be wearing black uniforms against Kentucky

After all the hype, Tennessee won’t be in black uniforms for the upcoming Kentucky game.
Jeremy Pruitt previously announced his team planned to wear the black alternate uniforms for the Kentucky game with the plan of auctioning off the uniforms at a later date but that is no longer the plan, the Tennessee coach announced on Monday.
What happened?
According to Pruitt, Nike was not informed of the plans and shot it down — although he noted that the apparel company has promised to deliver black uniforms in the future.
“I’ve learned a really good lesson as a head football coach,” Pruitt said on Monday. “There are contracts within our organization that are about our apparel and what we’re allowed to wear. It’s something that our players and staff want to do. It’s something that we’re not going to be able to do from the standpoint of our contract.
“We’re going to find ways within our organization to raise money and support local institutions. We’re not going to be able to do it this game. Nike guaranteed us that from now on we would be able to have black jerseys. It’s something we’ve worked hard on within our administration to get done.”
So there you have it. Not this year but down the line, the black uniforms are scheduled to return to Rocky Top.
