Things are tough at the moment on Rocky Top but they may not be as bad as some suggest.

Following Tennessee’s 34-7 home loss to Kentucky, the first defeat the Volunteers have suffered against the Wildcats in Neyland Stadium since the 1984 season, Jeremy Pruitt’s program is likely to be shaken up this week.

While that could lead to some personnel changes, one report regarding a potential transfer has already been disputed by the very subject of the story.

FOX Sports Knoxville is reporting that quarterback Brian Maurer is leaving Tennessee after Jarrett Guarantano, JT Shrout and Harrison Bailey all saw action against Kentucky.

Among the four quarterbacks at the top of Tennessee’s QB depth chart, Maurer was the only one not to play on Saturday.

It should be noted, as Pruitt has said many times, Maurer fought through an injury during training camp and didn’t get many reps leading up to the season.

Here is Maurer’s response to the FOX Sports Knoxville report:

Last season, Maurer appeared in eight games for Tennessee. He completed 35 of 75 throws for 541 yards with two touchdowns and five interceptions.
