Mark Stoops is shaking things up in Lexington this week following Kentucky’s disappointing 20-10 loss on the road at Missouri over the weekend that featured arguably the worst offensive showing from an SEC team this season.

In Kentucky’s updated depth chart heading into Georgia Week, Terry Wilson and Joey Gatewood are both listed as potential starters for the Wildcats this season. Wilson has started every game for Kentucky with Gatewood listed as the team’s backup.

Last weekend, Wilson completed just 3 of 9 pass attempts for 35 yards against Missouri, while Gatewood completed 1 of 4 passes for 12 yards.

During his first press conference of the week, Stoops was asked about Kentucky’s updated QB depth chart and which player is currently slated to start against Georgia.

“We’ll see. We’ll see how it goes throughout the week,” Stoops answered. “You know, having had an opportunity to meet with those guys, with Sunday being a day off, we having meetings coming up. We’ll see where everything is after a couple of days.”

Stoops then discussed how the team can get the passing game going.

“We need to push the ball down the field a little bit and create something in the pass game. Unfortunately, we’re not very effective in that,” he said.

Finally, on what he wants to see from his QBs, Stoops offered up this statement.

“I want to see our team play better. Anytime you say something like that, it’s going to get zeroed in on any one particular person, we need to play as a unit,” the Kentucky coach said. “We all understand that. We have to put our players in a position to do what they can do, what are their strengths?

“We need to execute that. That goes across the board,” Stoops concluded. “I want our unit to play better. I want us to play better across the board.”

Following these statements, the Kentucky coach noted Wilson would not practice on Monday due to a minor injury. With extra reps going to Gatewood to start the week, it’s safe to assume we’ll see more of the first-year Kentucky QB against Georgia on Saturday.
