What Jimbo Fisher said after Texas A&M's 20-7 win over LSU
Texas A&M pulled out a tough win over LSU on Saturday, 20-7, on a soggy night at Kyle Field.
It was the Aggies first game since Nov. 7. However, both teams had signifiant scheduling issues related to COVID-19.
LSU had its Oct. 17 matchup with Florida pushed back to December and the anticipated rivalry game with Alabama moved from Nov. 14 to next Saturday. Texas A&M, meanwhile, had not played since its Nov. 7 win over South Carolina after games against both Tennessee and Ole Miss were postponed.
Here is what coach Jimbo Fisher shared with the media after the game:
- Proud of the team. Found a way to win, a old slugfest. … Our defense kept rising their game and made stops consistently. Our punter was great. … Offensively, way too inconsistently.
- Fisher said neither the time away from football or the weather was to blame for the offense’s struggles.
- “I’m not worried about the playoff,” Fisher said. Said he’s worried about winning games week-to-week.
- Demond Demas was unavailable this week.
- Jimbo Fisher praised his defense but said his offense was way to inconsistent and didn’t block well. Said they did what they needed to do to win.
- Kellen had throws he should’ve hit, we had throws we need to get open and we need to block better. It’s a combination of all three things.
- Our energy was tough, we just didn’t play well. … We did some uncharacteristic things we need to get fixed and we need to get them fixed quickly.
- Fisher said most of the offensive line was available through the time players were quarantined because of contact tracing, which makes the down performance even more perplexing.
