After missing two games after taking a vicious hit in the Georgia game, you might think Florida would want to ease Kyle Pitts back on to the field in his return to action last weekend against Kentucky.

If that was your belief, you should have known better.

Pitts may have only been targeted seven times on Saturday but he made the most of his opportunities by catches five passes for 99 yards and three touchdowns.

On his first catch of the game, the 6-foot-6, 240-pound Pitts outran Kentucky’s entire secondary on a 56-yard touchdown reception.

Needless to say, Jeremy Pruitt has been impressed with what he’s seen from the Gator defensive back.

During his Monday afternoon press conference previewing the Florida game, the Tennessee coach called Pitts the best tight end in the nation.

“I think they’ve got the best tight end in the country, Kyle Pitts. Nobody has been able to slow him down,” Pruitt said on Monday. “The thing that has really impressed me the most about him, just in his game, he is a very good receiving tight end but if you just look at this season, he’s done a tremendous job blocking in the C area that has really elevated his game. No one really talks about that but I see it. I see the way he’s playing.”

That wasn’t all Pruitt had to say about Pitts, either.

He later added, “probably, in all my years of coaching, I believe he’s the most talented guy that we’ve ever played against.”

Sounds like Tennessee’s coaching staff will have its hands full on Saturday trying to contain the player Pruitt believes to be the best at his position in the country.
