UPDATE: After this story was posted, Jeremiah Williams announced he now plans to sign during the Early Signing Period. We’ll keep you posted on if that happens or not in the coming days.

It would appear one of Florida’s highest-rated commits in the 2021 recruiting cycle is having some second thoughts with the Early Signing Period approaching.

Four-star Birmingham, Ala., native Jeremiah Williams committed to Dan Mullen’s program back in October but the Gators still have some recruiting to do here if they hope to land the Ramsay High School standout.

Rated as one of the best overall prospects from the state of Alabama, Williams picked Florida over finalists Auburn and Georgia — Alabama and Clemson were also scholarship offers the Ramsay High School product landed during his recruitment.

With the Early Signing Period quickly approaching, it starts on Wednesday, Dec. 16 and runs through Friday, Dec. 18, Williams recently announced he plans to extend his recruitment through February’s National Signing Day.

“I’ve decided to not sign Wednesday . I’ll be signing in February to make sure I’m making the right decision,” Williams shared late Monday night.

The 6-foot-3, 224-pound pass rusher is rated as a four-star recruit, the No. 5 weakside defensive end in the nation and the No. 4 overall recruit from Alabama by 247Sports Composite Rankings. He’s also listed as the No. 73 overall prospect in the 2021 recruiting cycle.

In addition to being a top 100 overall prospect in the 2021 recruiting cycle, Williams had been selected to play in the 2021 All-American Bowl before that game was canceled due to COVID.

Of course, Williams could change his mind and sign with Florida this week. It wouldn’t be the first time a prospect has announced one thing and did another as the Early Signing Period and National Signing Day are known for featuring some unexpected decisions.
