Alabama will be faced with a massive loss on its offensive line as it prepares to face Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff semifinal on Jan. 2. Center Landon Dickerson was lost for the year to a ligament injury suffered late in the 4th quarter of the SEC Championship Game.

In the place of Dickerson, who’s considered one of the top centers in college football, the Crimson Tide will turn to senior Chris Owens. Owens brings experience of his own to the table as a solid backup—both at tackle and center—filling in nicely in the front 5 when called upon.

All told, for Nick Saban, it should essentially be business as usual despite losing potentially the heart and soul of the team.

“We have a lot of confidence in him,” Saban said, according to 247Sports.com. “He’s played multiple positions. He’s always been the backup center, as well as playing right tackle, left tackle, filling in for whoever has not been in there. Landon is a hard guy to replace because of his leadership, his personality. He’s very inspirational in a lot of ways to all of his teammates.”

It’s certainly tough for Dickerson as his college career has come to an end, but the Tide are looking for Owens to pick up the slack as they search for yet another national championship.
