Texas A&M is set to square off against North Carolina in the Orange Bowl on Saturday. And, like other programs across the country, it has seen its share of opt-outs throughout the season, but ahead of the game on Saturday, things have remained quiet on that front.

That’s not to say that the temptation for a few draft-eligible players to forego a final game to prepare for the spring doesn’t exist. One of the names that figures to land on a professional roster in a few months is offensive lineman Carson Green, but the senior made it clear on Monday’s Orange Bowl game week press conference that he would be suiting up one last time.

“I don’t know, the whole opt-out thing, everyone can make it what you want,” he explained. “I don’t think anybody on our team is going to quit on our team like that (because) we’ve been battling it out. The whole 2020 season, [we] definitely got real close (as a team) because there’s been a lot of stuff going on.”

Green discussed “the rough times” the Aggies had to weather, including the effects of COVID-19 on the program, but stressed that those only served to strengthen the resolve of the team.

In his case, he stated, it was only fair to stay considering his scholarship status.

“People knew that they just wanted to keep playing,” he said. ” I think it’s one of those things, too, we owed it to Texas A&M to play it out…I owe a lot to A&M to finish out my part of the contract and play out all my games, since they are providing a scholarship and let me play here.”
