While the announcement naming Alabama’s DeVonta Smith was being made at the ESPN campus in Bristol, Conn., the Crimson Tide basketball team was at home in Coleman Coliseum hosting the Florida Gators. Gators fans that were watching from home had a vested interest in the Heisman announcement themselves in case Kyle Trask was to be revealed as a rather surprising winner.

But it was indeed the Tide wide receiver who won college football’s most prestigious trophy. The news was met by a series of loud cheers from fans following along with the action as the announcement was shown on the Coleman Coliseum jumbotron.

Tide fans hope that it’s not the only celebration they’re doing over the coming days. Obviously, they hope that Nate Oats’ squad, sitting at 7-3 and on a 3-game winning streak, can beat the Gators on Tuesday and rival Auburn on Saturday, but there’s the College Football Playoff National Championship Game to look forward to on the gridiron on Monday against Ohio State.
