New Auburn coach Bryan Harsin has been busy putting together his new staff, and it seems he has made a big hire on Wednesday night.

Per a report from FootballScoop.com, the Tigers are going with a former SEC head coach who served as a coordinator in the Pac-12 prior to landing the head coaching job.

The report states that former Vanderbilt head coach Derek Mason is expected to become Auburn’s new coordinator:

Former Vanderbilt head coach Derek Mason, who rose to acclaim as defensive coordinator at Stanford, is expected to become Bryan Harsin’s defensive coordinator at Auburn University, multiple sources confirmed Wednesday night to FootballScoop. The hiring, pending background checks and final authorizations, is expected to be complete this week.

Mason is quite familiar with the challenges of trying to stop high-powered SEC offenses like Alabama’s, Ole Miss’s and Florida’s.

How will he fare with the talent on Auburn’s roster? We could find out in 2021 if Mason is indeed announced as the hire for Auburn in the coming days.
