Ryan Day and Nick Saban are 2 of the best coaches in college football right now, but they have very different levels of experience.

Saban will be going for his sixth national championship at Alabama on Monday night, and his seventh title overall. Meanwhile, Day will be trying to win his first.

But, speaking on FS1 on Friday, 3-time national champion Urban Meyer said Day and Saban are pretty similar when it comes to their drive and discipline (via 247Sports):

“I think they’re both very similar,” Meyer said of Day and Saban on Friday’s FS1 College Football Playoff National Championship preview show. “Obviously, we hand-picked Ryan Day to take over Ohio State. I’ve known coach Saban forever and coached against him four times. They’re a lot different because one’s a defensive-minded coach and one’s an offensive-minded coach.

“However, they are both very similar. They believe in fundamentals. They believe in selflessness and team first. That’s why they win. They believe in discipline. Both teams are very disciplined.

“I see a lot of similarities. One has been around a long time and one’s just getting this thing started. Two of the best people and coaches I’ve been around.”

Obviously, Day has a long way to go to match Saban’s resume, but what he’s done at Ohio State since Meyer left is certainly worthy of praise.

It’ll be interesting to see how he matches wits with an all-time great on Monday night.
