LSU just added to its recruiting department and did so at the expense of an SEC West foe.

On Friday morning, Mississippi State recruiting specialist Mason Smith announced he was leaving the program to join Ed Orgeron’s LSU program. Smith tagged Austin Thomas in his announcement, suggesting he will work under LSU’s general manager.

“I appreciate Mississippi State for giving me an opportunity in this industry,” Smith shared. “I’ve developed lifetime relationships with some great people. But I am excited to say I’ve accepted a job at LSU. Let’s get this going @LSUFootballGM. Geaux Tigers”

Smith had been on staff in Starkville for two seasons and had the title of “recruiting specialist” in Starkville. Prior to joining Mississippi State, Smith was a scout for Core 6 Sports.

It will be a homecoming of sorts for the new Tiger assistant as Smith is an LSU graduate. During his time at Mississippi State, Smith helped the Bulldogs recruit Texas, which is an area that LSU and Thomas also have a history of recruiting.
