One of the nation’s top prospects in the 2022 recruiting cycle has just announced his commitment to the LSU Tigers.

Five-star defensive back Jacoby Mathews, the nation’s No. 2 safety prospect, has just committed to Ed Orgeron’s program over Alabama, Florida, Mississippi State, Oklahoma and Texas. Mathews is a native of Ponchatoula, La., and plays for Ponchatoula High School.

Following this news, LSU now holds commitments from the state’s top three overall prospects in the 2022 recruiting cycle, as Mathews joins quarterback Walker Howard and offensive lineman Will Campbell as commits to the Tigers. All three of the LSU commits are rated as five-star prospects.

The 6-foot-2, 193-pound Mathews is rated as the No. 30 overall prospect in the country in the 2022 recruiting cycle according to 247Sports Composite Rankings.

With Mathews joining LSU’s recruiting class, the Tigers now hold commitments from 13 prospects in the 2022 recruiting cycle. The class currently ranks No. 3 nationally and No. 2 in the SEC.
