During his appearance at SEC Media Days 2021 on Tuesday, Kirby Smart provided the latest update on star transfer addition, Arik Gilbert.

Gilbert’s status was believed to be up in the air after he made the decision to leave LSU early last fall, which led to questions regarding his academic status.

According to Smart, however, Gilbert is “on track to be eligible” this season according to Marc Weiszer of the Athens Banner-Herald.

Smart was also asked about Georgia’s interest in adding Gilbert from the transfer portal this offseason. For Smart, it was all about being more dynamic on offense.

“Any time you get a skill player on offense, you’re looking to be dynamic,” Smart shared.

If you missed it on Monday, Ed Orgeron was asked to comment on Gilbert’s potential during his appearance at SEC Media Days.

“We wish Arik the best,” Orgeron said. “He’s an outstanding young man, his momma is a great lady, I think he’s going to be an All-Pro tight end, All-American. Will have a chance to be a first-round draft choice.”

Gilbert is the highest-rated tight end prospect in the history of 247Sports Composite Recruiting rankings.
