A Top 5 matchup will be brewing at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte as No. 3 Clemson faces No. 5 Georgia. Both the Tigers and Bulldogs are expected to be in the College Football Playoff discussion throughout the season, and while a loss won’t mean that either team’s chances will go up in smoke completely, starting the season off with a loss provides very little margin for error the rest of the way.

But who has more to lose in the matchup: Clemson or Georgia? According to Paul Finebaum, the answer is Clemson.

“Let’s say (the Bulldogs) run the table in the SEC,” Finebaum said on “Keyshawn, JWill, and Zubin”, according to 247Sports. “They beat Florida in Jacksonville. And then, what they’ll have to do is beat Alabama. If they beat Alabama in the SEC Championship Game and Alabama’s undefeated and No. 1 in the country, they’re going to the CFP. I frankly think Georgia has less to lose Saturday night than Clemson.”

Meanwhile, in the case of a Tigers loss, Finebaum notes a lesser opportunity for quality wins on the ACC schedule that could work against them, especially if they turn in a poor showing on Saturday.

“Let’s say they don’t look very good. Where do they go to plant a flag?” he said. “You just can’t get national notoriety beating N.C. State, which would be the next quality team they play. What if they play North Carolina in the championship game and North Carolina has lost a couple of games?”
