Texans announce new position for former Florida QB Jeff Driskel
Former Florida quarterback Jeff Driskel will be playing a new position for the Houston Texans. And it’s a change a few ex-Gators signal-callers have made in the past, too.
According to Texans tight end coach Andy Bischoff, Driskel will take snaps at the tight end position:
#Texans TE coach Andy Bischoff on QB @jeffdriskel moving full time to tight end (and special teams too): “He’s a rare athlete. This is a guy who ran 4.5 coming out of college. He has traits you don’t often see at that position other than some of the Lamar Jacksons of the world” pic.twitter.com/hoAbinvxiD

This is Driskel’s 4th year in the NFL, and the Texans are his 5th team. Originally drafted out of Louisiana Tech by the San Francisco 49ers in 2016, he was inked to a 4-year deal before being waived. He was then on the Cincinnati Bengals’ roster for 3 seasons and eventually started their final 5 games in 2018. After stints with the Detroit Lions and Denver Broncos, he landed with the Texans as a practice-squad signing and eventually found himself on their active roster.
Now, Houston is hoping that the 6-foot-4, 235-pounder can provide help at the tight end spot moving forward. It’s the same path this year that ex-Gator QB Feliepe Franks briefly followed during preseason as a rookie, and, most notably and probably most infamously, Tim Tebow under Urban Meyer with the Jacksonville Jaguars before his release.
