On Nov. 21, 2020, Bryce Young threw his first touchdown pass. It turned out to be a ball thrown from one Heisman winner to another.

In a video message to his former Alabama teammate, DeVonta Smith, the 2020 Heisman Trophy winner, points out that he caught Young’s first career TD pass. Smith’s message, shared by the official Alabama football account, was played during Saturday’s ceremony in New York City. Smith also points out that the two most-recent Heisman winners each faced questions about being too small.

While it’s a shame he couldn’t attend in person, it’s safe to know who received Smith’s first vote as a Heisman winner.
