Paul Finebaum has seen quarterbacks come and go from the SEC over the years. Still, Bo Nix’s decision to leave Auburn for Oregon was a bit of a surprise to many.

Nix will team up with new Oregon coach Dan Lanning in 2022 to try to take a step forward that never materialized at Auburn.

So, what does the SEC Network host think of the move? Finebaum shared his thoughts on “McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning” on WJOX on Monday morning:

“He’s almost a professional football player now with all the time that he’s put in,” Finebaum said. “It’s essentially a gap year. A lot of people would go to Europe or somewhere after their senior year just to kind of chill out a little bit. I think it’s kind of a free pass for him. A chance to concentrate and not deal with all the intramural battles I think he’s dealt with that we talk about here ad nauseam. The only place farther away he could have found, I guess, would have been Hawai’i. But Oregon’s pretty far away.

“One thing about Oregon, though, is I think they play Georgia. They have a really stout schedule in terms of what they’ve done in the past. They played Ohio State this year as we all know. The Pac-12, you can say whatever you want, but it’s high-quality football. And he’s prepared for it. This guy, he’s played Oregon before. That was his baptism. He’s played in the toughest league in the world, so this should be pretty easy for him.”

Will Nix find success in Eugene? We’ll find out next fall!
