South Carolina linebacker Sherrod Greene suffered a broken ankle early in the Gamecocks’ game against Georgia on Sept. 18 and was forced into season-ending surgery.

Greene has been with the program for 5 seasons but has seen the last 2 cut short by injuries, with his 2020 season hampered by a hip injury that saw him only play once. On Thursday, though, he announced his intentions to return to the Gamecocks for a 6th season in 2022.

He posted the news on his Twitter account:

Greene’s best season was in 2018 as he recorded 73 tackles, 3.0 tackles for a loss, and 1 interception. In 2019, he totaled 6.5 tackles for a loss. He was expected to be one of the anchors of the linebacker corps once more in 2020 if not for a fractured hip sustained against Tennessee to start the season.

But the Gamecocks will have him in the fold for at least 1 more season as he looks to put an injury-marred last 2 years behind him and finish his career in Columbia on a positive note.
