Auburn basketball nearly suffered a disappointing upset on the road against an unranked Georgia squad. Fortunately, Wendell Green was there to save the day.

Playing without starting guard Zep Jasper, Green rescued Auburn with a late bucket in regulation. That bucket allowed the Tigers to sneak out of Athens with a 74-72 win and a 10-0 record in SEC play.

K.D. Johnson led Auburn with 20 points in the win while Green posted 19 points. Walker Kessler just missed a double-double but had a strong afternoon with 10 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 blocks. Georgia’s Kario Oquendo led all scorers with a game-high 25 points for the Bulldogs.

With the win, Auburn remains undefeated in SEC play and is up to 22-1 overall as the No. 1 team in the nation. According to ESPN, that ties the program’s best start which was achieved during the 1998-99 season. That season was also the only time the Tigers earned a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
