Former Georgia DB, ex-first-round pick, released by Kansas City Chiefs

Former Georgia DB Deandre Baker was the No. 30 overall pick in Round 1 of the 2019 NFL Draft, going to the New York Giants.

But, after his rookie season, Baker was arrested and charged with armed robbery and aggravated assault with a firearm. Though those charges were eventually dropped, Baker was released by the Giants.

He ended up in Kansas City playing for the Chiefs in 2020 and 2021, but on Sunday, it was reported that the Chiefs had decided to release him:

The Chiefs released CB DeAndre Baker, a former first-round pick by the Giants. He was down on the depth chart after the Chiefs drafted Trent McDuffie, Josh Williams and Jaylen Watson and traded for Lonnie Johnson.

In 3 professional seasons, Baker has appeared in 26 games, recording 82 total tackles, 1 sack and 10 pass breakups. He’s yet to record an interception in the pro ranks.

Now, he’ll look to sign with a new squad before the 2022 NFL season officially kicks off.
