John Metchie III is on the mind of his Houston Texans teammates as they play their first preseason game of 2022 on Saturday night.

Jalen Camp did Alabama’s “Crimson Crane” touchdown celebration after his second-quarter score against the Saints as a tribute to Metchie.

The Texans selected Metchie in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft. In July, the former Crimson Tide standout released a statement through the team revealing that he was diagnosed APL (Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia), putting his professional football career on hold.

“Recently, I was diagnosed with APL (Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia), the most curable form of Leukemia,” Metchie’s July statement reads. “I am currently receiving great medical care, am in good spirits and I expect to make a recovery at a later point in time. As a result of this diagnosis, I will likely not be playing football this season. My main focus will be on my health and recovery. Thank you in advance for your support and well-wishes. I cannot wait to come back stronger than ever. God bless.”

As much as we’d like to see Metchie making touchdown catches, that’s an awesome tribute from a teammate. Hopefully, Metchie gets healthy soon, so he can do his own TD celebrations.
