Cadillac Williams is making the most of his time as Auburn’s interim coach. In his 3 games at the helm of his alma mater, he’s 2-1 overall and a perfect 2-0 at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

This coming week, though, the toughest test of all looms large, as the Tigers head to Tuscaloosa for the Iron Bowl rivalry matchup against Alabama.

Williams was asked about his history with Nick Saban after Saturday’s 41-17 win over Western Kentucky, and his answer didn’t disappoint.

Williams reflected on the 2005 NFL Draft, when Saban and the Miami Dolphins took fellow Auburn RB Ronnie Brown No. 2 overall ahead of Williams (via AL.com):

“He did pass on me in the 2005 (NFL) Draft, and he took Ronnie Brown over me,” Williams laughed Saturday night. “That still hurts me a little bit, but I’m over it now.”

Williams went No. 5 overall to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Saban, of course, only lasted a couple of years at Miami before returning to the college ranks and taking the Alabama job in 2007.

Can Williams pull off one last upset? If he does the unthinkable and leads Auburn to an upset win over Alabama, the calls for him to land the full-time job will grow even louder moving forward.
