Arkansas has hired a new director of its strength and conditioning program, and he is no stranger to the SEC.

The Razorbacks on Wednesday announced that Ben Sowders had been named to the vacant position. He replaces Jamil Walker, who was fired after the regular season ended. Sowders comes to the Razorbacks from Louisville, where he served in the same role with the Cardinals football program in 2022.

Prior to his time at Louisville, Sowders was the assistant strength and conditioning director at Georgia for 4 seasons. He worked closely with Sam Pittman during part of that stint as the latter coached the Bulldogs’ offensive line. With the Razorbacks in the market for a replacement atop their strength and conditioning department — and with Scott Satterfield having left Louisville for the Cincinnati head coaching job — the opportunity presented itself for Sowders to reunite with Pittman in Fayetteville.

Arkansas finished the regular season 6-6, a dropoff from a 2021 campaign that saw it end the year at 9-4. It will play in the Liberty Bowl against Kansas on Dec. 28.
