Jalen Catalon has officially entered the NCAA transfer portal, according to Adam Rittenberg of ESPN. The standout Arkansas defensive back is looking for a fresh start, per his head coach.

Catalon was a 2020 AP All-SEC First Team selection and a preseason All-American each of the last 2 seasons. The injury bug, however, has significantly limited Catalon’s time on the field.

Earlier Friday, Sam Pittman revealed that Catalon was likely to explore transfer options. At that time, Catalon had yet to enter the NCAA transfer portal:

“I think he’s leaning towards going into the portal, but I don’t believe that he has yet, or anything of that nature. From my conversation with him today, he was leaning towards going into the portal. I just think he wants a fresh start. I talked to him about, if he was going to leave here, if he wanted my advice, I would just declare for the NFL and give it that type of chance. But he had a different view on it, and whatever he wants to do we’ll be fine with it.”

In 2020, Catalon recorded 99 tackles, including 2 for loss, 2 forced fumbles, 4 pass breakups and 3 interceptions in 10 games. Since then, however, he has been limited to just 7 games over the last 2 seasons. He has been sidelined since Arkansas’ 2022 season opener.

Arkansas considered Catalon a redshirt junior in 2022. With the NCAA’s COVID-19 waiver, he has 2 remaining seasons of eligibility.
