Former South Carolina K Ryan Succop is looking for a new opportunity in the NFL.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced Thursday that they are releasing Succop after 3 seasons with the club.

Succop departs Tampa Bay as one of the franchise’s best kickers. He was 84-of-99 on field goal attempts and 132-of-141 on extra points over 3 seasons.

Succop has the best field goal success rate among Bucs kickers, making 84.8%. In 2020, Succop set a Bucs franchise record with 136 points scored. During Tampa Bay’s 2020 postseason run that ended with a Super Bowl victory, Succop made all 9 field goal attempts and 12-of-13 extra points.

Jenna Laine of ESPN notes that Bucs coach Todd Bowles has sought to improve the team’s long-range kicking. Succop was just 2-of-7 in 2022 on field goal attempts of 50 yards or more.

Succop, 36, has been in the NFL since 2009 when he was selected in the 7th round by the Kansas City Chiefs with the No. 256 pick. He played with the Chiefs from 2009-to-2013 and was with the Tennessee Titans from 2014-to-2019.
