TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Although the University of Alabama football team had at least six players leave Saturday’s game against Western Carolina with some form of an injury, it appears that only two may be sidelined for any significant amount of time.

During his postgame press conference Nick Saban said that senior tight end Brian Vogler and redshirt freshman wide receiver ArDarius Stewart both had the biggest injury, “stretched knee ligaments.”

The coach also announced that junior wide receiver Amari Cooper (bruised knee) could have returned, while sophomore defensive lineman A’Shawn Robinson and true freshman left tackle Cam Robinson had ankle sprains.

“Should be ok,” he said about all three after the 48-14 victory at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Senior fullback Jalston Fowler, who did return to the game, told reporters that he had sustained a mild stinger.

Saban said that running back T.J. Yeldon (ankles), wide receiver DeAndrew White (hamstring) and kicker Adam Griffth (undisclosed) could have played but were held out for precautionary reasons along with junior linebacker Denzel Devall (ankle).

“We chose not to play them so they wont have sort of these reoccurring problems and sort of use this as a window to get them healthy.”

Saturday was Vogler’s 46th game of his career, and 21st start. A key blocker for the running game, he’s already sustained a sprained knee and high ankle sprain this season.

Saturday was Stewart’s first start as he was filling in for White. He finished with five receptions for 51 yards.

Alabama hosts rival Auburn next Saturday (8 p.m. ET, ESPN).

“It’s definitely not good,” junior center Ryan Kelly said about the rash of injuries, especially in the first half. “We always want to be healthy as much as we can. We have to get guys healthy, and half the most trust in our training staff, so we should have everyone back healthy this week.”
