Alabama held its National Championship celebration Saturday in Tuscaloosa, and the university was packed.

Several notable people spoke to the massive crowd. SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey and College Football Playoff Executive Director Bill Hancock were on hand, along with others, but none had higher praise for Nick Saban than Alabama AD Greg Byrne. During his speech, Byrne declared Saban the best coach in the country regardless of the sport.

“We don’t have the best college football coach in the country,” Byrne declared. “We’ve got the best coach in the country. Do we not?”

Now, there are several great coaches in many sports around the country, but what Saban and Alabama have accomplished during his time has certainly been remarkable. Putting Saban up against the likes of the Patriots’ Bill Belichick and Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski, among others, is certainly high praise.

The debate for the best college football coach in the country currently and the best college football coach of all-time is already over. Saban is it. But the best coach in the country regardless of sport? Now, that’s a debate.
