Alabama’s original plan to play LSU on Nov. 14 was scuttled due to the presence of the coronavirus within the Tigers’ football program. The postponement was one of several that was announced in the previous week, with a total of 4 in the SEC needing to be pushed back.

The University of Alabama is looking to work with LSU to reschedule the game, but the Crimson Tide don’t have another open date outside of Dec. 12, the day the Tigers’ game against Florida was rescheduled to. As for Dec. 19, that would pose an issue if the Tide advance to the SEC Championship Game.

For Alabama athletic director Greg Byrne, though, the program doesn’t want to “get the cart ahead of the horse,” preferring to handle things on a week-by-week basis.

“I think there would be the opportunity between the end of the season and Dec. 19 … but there could be another game on the 12th and I know there’s discussion about games on the 19th as well,” he said. “My conversation with the conference and with my peers is just doing everything we can to continue to move forward.”

As the university continues to monitor the situation, Byrne stated that its immediate focus was on the Crimson Tide’s upcoming game against Kentucky.

“Now we’re focused on trying to have a game this Saturday against the University of Kentucky, and right now here we sit on Monday … and things are on schedule for the game against (them).”
