If you’re looking for record-breaking performances in the SEC this season, look no further than Alabama RB Derrick Henry. In addition to pulling in just about every award that was handed out – including the coveted Heisman Trophy – the junior etched his name next to the greatest performances in SEC history.

And he’s closing in on one more. Henry needs 27 carries vs. Clemson on Monday night in the College Football Playoff national championship game at Glendale, Ariz., to break the SEC single-season record for rush attempts. With 359 carries, most in the nation, Henry is close to surpassing Georgia’s Herschel Walker, who toted it 385 times for the Bulldogs in 1981.

Setting yet another record this season seems like a possibility considering Henry is averaging right at 26 carries per game. In seven games this season, Henry rushed at least 26 times. In back-to-back weeks, against Auburn and then in the SEC Championship Game with Florida, the Tide’s leader carried 46 and 44 times respectively.

The Doak Walker, Maxwell, and Walter Camp Player of the Year Awards winner already has set two SEC single-season records with still one game left. With two rushing touchdowns in Alabama’s 38-0 thrashing of Michigan State in the Cotton Bowl, Henry broke the SEC single-season rushing touchdown record.

He went into that game tied for the record with Auburn’s Tre Mason (2013) and Florida’s Tim Tebow (2007). Each recorded 23 touchdowns in their respective standout seasons.

Henry, a consensus All-America and SEC Offensive Player of the Year, also set the SEC rushing record for yards in a single season. Again, it was the legendary Walker he passed to get there. His 460 yards over the final two games leading up to the Cotton Bowl put him over the top.

He will add on Monday to his record-setting total of 2,061 yards rushing this season. Oddly enough, Henry wasn’t the only SEC player to break the record. LSU RB Leonard Fournette, who for half the season was almost everyone’s lock for the Heisman Trophy, also surpassed Walker’s mark of 1,891 yards by rushing for 1,953 yards for the Tigers this year.

Henry had four games where he rushed for 200-plus yards, including a season-high 271 yards vs. Auburn during a 29-13 victory in the Iron Bowl. He turned in eight games of 140-plus yards and scored at least one touchdown in every game this season.

It was truly a remarkable season, especially over the last half of it when Henry made his biggest push. Over the last eight games alone, Henry has rushed for 1,396 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Care to look a little further down in the record books? You’ll find another SEC single-season record breaker. Mississippi State senior quarterback Dak Prescott set the conference record for plays from scrimmage. The Bulldogs’ signal-caller was involved in 637 plays from scrimmage this season, breaking the record previously held by both Texas A&M’s Johnny Manziel (2012) and Kentucky’s Jared Lorenzen (2000). Both previously held the record with 635 plays from scrimmage.

Prescott completed an incredible career at Mississippi State by leading the SEC this season in pass attempts (477) and completions (316). The Bulldogs’ ironman also led the SEC last season with 606 total plays.
