Alabama had a special guest for A-Day, though calling Nick Saban a guest is not quite accurate.

The recently retired and legendary head coach returned to Tuscaloosa for the first A-Day for the program under Kalen DeBoer’s leadership. Part of Saban’s time on campus included receiving his SEC Championship ring with Jalen Milroe delivering a brief speech before unveiling the ring.

Needless to say, Saban was blown away by the ring which was designed by the players. Don’t expect him to wear it much outside his house, though.

“Wow! This is not really the ring, right? So you guys think I should wear this? I know they were getting bigger and bigger and bigger but I thought there was some limit,” joked Saban. “…This is something you put in your trophy case, this is not something you wear.”

Of course, Saban’s time at A-Day would not be complete without addressing the team. He urged the Crimson Tide players to “carry the torch” in continuing to make Alabama a special place to play and develop.

“I love Alabama. We spent 17 years of our lives here trying to make this something special,” Saban said. “It is something special, and you guys got to carry the torch, and I know you will. I’ve got great confidence in you.”
