Alabama, TCU ADs respond to report about potential Week 1 matchup if Pac-12 teams can't play
With California still under some of the strictest lockdown protocols in the nation, there is some concern as to whether Pac-12 teams will be ready to start the 2020 football season at the same time as other major conferences.
For example, what if Alabama is ready to play in early September, but USC isn’t? They’re scheduled to meet up in Dallas in Week 1.
On Tuesday, reports surfaced that Alabama and TCU (the Horned Frogs are supposed to play Cal in Week 1) are working on a contingency plan to play each other in Week 1. However, both Alabama AD Greg Byrne and TCU AD Jeremiah Donati said on Tuesday that their plans are to play their regularly-scheduled Week 1 foes:
Received a text from Alabama AD @Greg_Byrne a few minutes ago in response to asking about possibility of an Alabama-TCU opener.
His response: “Our plan is to play USC.”

On the TCU-Alabama at AT&T Stadium speculation, AD Jeremiah Donati says: “We are preparing to play Cal in Week 1. If we determine at some point that we cannot do so, we’ll look at other options.”

There’s still time for things to sort themselves out well before September, but it never hurts to be prepared.
