When it came to catching passes at the tight end position for the Alabama the past two seasons, Hale Hentges hasn’t been the guy.

In 2018, Irv Smith Jr. was the pass-catching tight end, while Hentges handled more of the blocking aspects of the position. However, when he did catch passes, they usually went for touchdowns. Of his 11 receptions the past two years, six of them led to scores for the Crimson Tide.

Hentges didn’t get picked during the 2019 NFL Draft, but he will get a chance to show his skills at the NFL level. Per his agent, Hentges has signed an undrafted free agent contract with the Indianapolis Colts:

The Colts currently have Jack Doyle and Eric Ebron as their tight ends, but Hentges could compete for a backup spot.

He’s one of the best pass blockers at the position, so we’ll see how the Colts decide to use him.
