College rivalries don’t stop for football players once they get to the NFL. These guys are still rooting on their former schools and talking trash with those who came from rival programs.

So it isn’t a surprise that a pair of New England Patriots players made a bet on last Saturday’s Tennessee-Alabama matchup. The wager was between running back Damien Harris, who played for the Crimson Tide from 2015-18, and fullback Jakob Johnson, who played for the Vols from 2014-17.

The end result? Johnson had to dye his hair crimson red after Tennessee lost, 52-24, at Alabama. And here’s what it looks like:

It isn’t a surprise that Johnson referred to the color as “terrible,” considering he’s not a fan of the Crimson Tide. It isn’t clear what would have happened if the Vols had pulled off the upset, but perhaps it would have resulted in Harris with orange hair.

Harris didn’t have to worry about that, though, as Alabama used a 28-point fourth quarter to cruise to victory at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa.

“The third Saturday in October hasn’t been great for me,” Johnson said, per Zack Cox of NESN. “I made some wagers and had to pay the price. … This is the result.”

Maybe the rivalry series will be kinder to Johnson in 2022. However, the Vols have lost 15 straight meetings with the Crimson Tide and haven’t notched a win over them since 2006, so they would need to perform better than they have in recent years.
