Charlie Condon continued his home run hot streak by smashing a 3-run blast on Sunday against Vanderbilt.

The Georgia slugger is chasing NCAA history with dingers in 7 straight contests. Condon’s latest long ball went an estimated 419 feet, an exit velocity of 107 MPH off the bat and a launch angle of 29.53 degrees.

For Condon, it’s his 33rd homer of the season. The number matches Florida star Jac Caglianone’s 33 homers last season, tying a BBCOR-era NCAA record (2011-present) and the second-most in SEC history.

This season, Caglianone homered in 9 consecutive games, tying an NCAA record from 2021. Condon could join that club if he leaves the yard on Thursday and Friday at South Carolina. If Condon homers in all 3 games against the Gamecocks, he will break the NCAA record.

Condon and Caglianone will face off when Florida visits Athens on the final weekend of the 2024 regular season (May 16-18). In addition to being a slugging first baseman, Caglianone also pitches Florida’s weekend series finales. Caglianone pitching to Condon is sure to have the attention of the college baseball world.

Georgia heating up at the right time

Condon’s Sunday blast extended UGA’s lead to 9-3 over Vanderbilt. Those runs proved important, as Vandy managed to score in the 8th inning, but fell short of a comeback. The Bulldogs completed the sweep with an 11-7 victory.

Georgia is now 35-12 and 13-11. The Dawgs have won 5 in a row, a streak that started with beating a top-ranked Texas A&M squad to split a doubleheader.

UGA entered the weekend as a projected tournament team, but outside the 16 national seeds that will serve as Regional hosts. The Bulldogs may be able to change that with the way they’re playing.

Sunday’s win moves Georgia to No. 5 nationally in RPI, per WarrenNolan.com. That’s above Tennessee (No. 8) and South Carolina (No. 13), both projected Regional hosts by D1Baseball and Baseball America.

Georgia just so happens to be playing South Carolina next. The Gamecocks are 12-11 in SEC play (and currently leading Mizzou 7-4). South Carolina’s RPI is currently No. 13. Ahead of this weekend’s series, South Carolina was projected as a 10-seed (D1Baseball) and 12-seed (Baseball America).

If Condon brings his hot back to Columbia, the Dawgs might be able to take a hosting spot away from the Gamecocks.
