In today’s world of college football recruiting, it’s never over until the prospects sign on the dotted line. That’s especially true with the most elite recruits in the nation, as they have nearly every school clamoring to give them an opportunity, even if it’s just for a weekend visit.

Alabama knows that well, as two of the Tide’s top commitments have every intention of exploring all their options before ending their recruitment process.

Despite having being committed to Alabama for over a year, five-star offensive lineman Alex Leatherwood declared his plans to take official visits to both USC and Michigan this fall, according to Luke Stampini of 247Sports. The Pensacola, Fla., native may also visit Gainesville this fall.

“I talk to Coach (McElwain) on a daily basis,” Leatherwood said. “I’ll be going back up there for the Friday Night Lights camp, and I might take an official visit…It’s been a while since I’ve been up there, and I need to get back. They tell me to represent the state, come in and make a big impact early.”

Despite all the planned visits and communication with rival coaches, Leatherwood suggested his commitment is still firm with the Tide.

The bigger challenge for the Tide may be holding on to top dual-threat quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. The Hawaiian prospect unexpectedly committed to Alabama in May over USC and has recently been extended an offer from Oregon – where his favorite quarterback and fellow Hawaiian Marcus Mariota won the Heisman in 2014.

While in Beaverton, Oregon for the Elite 11 Finals, Tagovailoa discussed his plans to take all five of his official visit with Ryan Bartow of 247Sports.

“Alabama, USC are the only visits I know I’m going to be taking that I know so far but I know I’m going to be taking all five of my official visits,” Tagovailoa said. “Not too many kids from Hawaii get this opportunity so I just want to enjoy the process.”

The quarterback prospect also indicated that while Oregon wasn’t working as hard to recruit him but the Ducks continue to be on his radar.
