Caleb Williams became a star at Oklahoma this past season. But, recently, he decided to follow coach Lincoln Riley to USC, where he’ll play in 2022 and beyond.

The hype around the Trojans is real, and on Wednesday, Williams joined “Good Morning America” for an interview.

The topic of his recruitment came up, and Williams explained why his dad wouldn’t let him have Alabama in his consideration:

“About 10 years ago, my dad actually told me to make a list of schools that I wanted to go to and he said No. 1, you can’t have Alabama on there,” Williams said. “So, I ended up choosing schools like the West Coast schools out here. First was USC. Dreams do come true. Next, it was obviously I had coach Riley and everybody else that came over from Oklahoma here. There’s a certain sense of comfort when you have people like that here who you’ve been around here for at least a year and talked to for more years before that.”

That’s certainly something. Why Williams’ dad didn’t want him to go to Alabama is unclear. But, if he does get USC to the point where the Trojans are competing for a Playoff spot, you can bet Crimson Tide fans and players will remember these comments. They’ll be eager to prove dad doesn’t always know best.
