Through two weeks of the 2017 season, the question on many Alabama fans’ minds is whether or not QB Jalen Hurts has improved as a passer.

The sophomore (who won the SEC Offensive Player of the Year award last year) didn’t have the best performance against a tough Florida State defense in Week 1 and didn’t need to throw that much in an easy Week 2 victory over Fresno State, so questions still abound.

However, college football expert Phil Savage said he’s seen a bit of progress from Hurts, telling 105.5’s The Opening Kickoff on Thursday that the Alabama quarterback is still a work in progress, but is steadily improving (via AL.com):

“I would say definitely he’s made incremental progress,” Savage said. “The reality is Jalen Hurts is one of the best college football quarterbacks in the country because of his dual-threat ability. You got a running back build with a big throwing arm. His drop-back game is a work in progress, and I think that will continue to improve a little bit at a time.”

As the season wears on, Hurts’s arm may become more of a factor for the Crimson Tide, especially in tough SEC West matchups against teams like LSU and Auburn.

Those will be the real tests of whether Hurts has improved in the passing game, and it’s safe to say Savage will be watching closely.
