Dan Lanning says he’s staying at Oregon.

Amid rumors linking him to the Alabama opening, Lanning took to social media to share a video message. Lanning posted a video showing an Oregon team meeting to start the 2024 season. His post included a text message:

“If you’re scared your coach is leaving, then come play for us. The Ducks aren’t going anywhere and I’m not leaving.”

Lanning had the leading betting odds to be Saban’s successor. He checked many of the boxes for Alabama’s next head coach.

The 37-year-old Lanning was on Alabama’s staff as a graduate assistant for the 2015 national championship run. Saban wanted to bring him back in 2018, but Kirby Smart had already hired Lanning away from Memphis to the Georgia staff.

Lanning started as Georgia’s outside linebackers coach and took on defensive coordinator responsibilities in 2019. In his final season at Georgia, Lanning’s dominant defense helped carry the Bulldogs to their first national championship since 1980.

In two seasons at Oregon, Lanning has posted a 22-5 record. He took the Ducks to the New Year’s Six, capping a 12-2 2023 season with a win in the Fiesta Bowl. In the final rankings, Oregon finished No. 6 in the AP Top 25 and No. 7 in the Coaches Poll.

Football fans everywhere will see where the Alabama coaching search turns with Lanning out of the picture.
