Former Alabama DB Cyrus Jones’s rookie season didn’t go quite how he imagined it.

Though he was a member of the New England Patriots squad that won the Super Bowl, Jones didn’t see the field during the postseason because he couldn’t be trusted to hold on to the ball as a punt and kickoff returner.

Now, though, Jones is trying to turn the page and put last year behind him. At the end of the Patriots’ OTAs earlier this month, Jones told CSNNE.com that he is focusing on this year and what he can do to be a better player every day:

“I mean you can pinpoint a lot of reasons for you know my struggles,” said Jones was asked if he put too much pressure on himself. “Like I said before, that’s done, in the past. I’m focused on this upcoming season. As far as proving something, I just want to come out and be a productive player for the team. I’m not going into every day saying I need to prove this, prove that. I’m just trying to come, work hard every day and get better.”

Jones returned 11 punts and eight kickoffs in 2016, but fumbled an NFL-leading five times, making it so the Patriots didn’t feel comfortable playing him.

If he can’t hold on to the ball this fall, he could find himself looking for a new team.
